Why Did Devi Create Humans? A Reflection from Sanatana Dharma

We chase temporary pleasures, making our lower desires into habits and even identities, proudly flaunting them to society. We endlessly pursue materialistic dreams, believing they will finally bring peace to our restless hearts. Yet, after millions of lifetimes lived in this exact cycle, we still find ourselves trapped in the same patterns, again and again.

Pause for a moment and think of those loved ones who have departed from this earthly Maya of Devi. Can we genuinely say they left this world happy and fulfilled? Deep inside, we all know our lifespan is limited. Yet, we remain absorbed only in fulfilling short-term desires, neglecting the cries of our eternal soul.

What is that missing piece—the one capable of truly nourishing our soul for countless lifetimes? What can give genuine peace, completeness, and clarity about our existence?

Do we ever genuinely pause to reflect upon these deeper questions? Instead, we remain entangled in superficial worries: “When will I get married?” “Why do people betray me?” “Why am I always hurt?” “Why doesn’t God listen to me?” “When will I travel abroad?”

But think deeply—what if all these desires were miraculously fulfilled within a month? Wouldn’t new desires simply arise again—maybe a chartered plane, or owning an island? The truth is, this cycle of desires never ends.

So what is that profound element, that deeper truth, that can truly complete us? What will finally reveal our true purpose and show us clearly why Devi created this magnificent universe?

Think about it deeply—because this understanding is what your soul truly longs for.

According to the profound wisdom of Sanatana Dharma, the endless cycle of desires arises because the soul mistakenly identifies itself with the transient, material world (Maya). This illusionary identification binds us in cycles of birth, death, and rebirth (Samsara).

Our scriptures, such as the Bhagavad Gita and Devi Bhagavatam, clearly guide us toward that missing element you seek:

The true and lasting fulfillment your soul yearns for is realizing and experiencing your eternal relationship with the Divine Mother (Devi) or the Supreme (Brahman). Devi created this universe as Her divine play (Leela)—not merely to bind us, but to offer a path back home, to Her.

Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, Verse 70) beautifully explains this:

“Just as rivers flow continuously into the ocean, yet the ocean remains unmoved—similarly, one who remains unaffected by desires attains peace, not the one who endlessly chases desires.”

Sanatana Dharma teaches that external desires are infinite, temporary, and ultimately incapable of giving true satisfaction. The only lasting peace is found in:

  • Bhakti (devotion) to the Divine Mother or Ishta Devata.

  • Jnana (self-realization)—understanding your true spiritual nature.

  • Dharma (righteous action)—living life according to your soul’s true purpose.

When you turn your consciousness inward through devotion (Bhakti), wisdom (Jnana), and duty (Dharma), you discover what your soul truly seeks—your eternal relationship with the Divine. Devi, as AadiShakti, created this universe as a sacred stage for this very realization.

This is why our ancient scriptures lovingly remind us:

“Real happiness and fulfillment arise only when the soul recognizes its true Self—inseparable from Devi Herself.”

Thus, the ultimate answer is simple yet profound:

Turn inward, surrender fully, seek Devi earnestly—and She Herself will reveal the purpose for your birth, fulfill the deepest longing of your soul, and guide you home.
